LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? The 58th-ranked University of South Alabama women’s tennis team will continue its dual match schedule this weekend when it heads to the “Bluegrass State” for a pair of matches. USA will take on Houston on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then face No. 40 Louisville at 10 a.m. on Sunday with both matches scheduled to be held at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on the UL campus.
In their last match, the Jaguar women (12-1) rebounded from its first loss of the spring season with a dominant 6-1 victory over fellow Sun Belt Conference member UALR on Thursday in Mobile. USA swept all three doubles matches and then took five of the sixth singles matches to remain perfect against SBC foes.
Junior Michaela Babicova and Adrianna Solarova continue to lead the club this spring, each with an 11-2 record. Babicova is ranked No. 123 in the country by the ITA with a 16-3 overall record. Jelena Krivacevic also continues to have a strong campaign with a 13-1 overall mark and a perfect 10-0 dual match record.
Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg are also ranked No. 35 in the latest ITA doubles rankings as the duo is 12-1 this season.
Saturday’s opponent Houston is 10-7 on the season and is coming off a 4-3 victory over Samford on Sunday. Leila Salek (11-5) and Vicky Simpson (11-4) lead the team in singles play, while junior Lynley Wasson also is in double figures with 10 wins of her own.
Louisville will be the highest ranked opponent that the Jags have faced to this point in the season. UL enters play this weekend coming off a 4-3 loss to Tulsa in Dallas, Texas on Saturday. Louisville is 1-0 against teams from the state of Alabama this season, having defeated the Crimson Tide, 5-2 in Tuscaloosa. UL also holds a win over one common opponent, picking up a 5-2 win over Indiana State back in February.
The Cardinals will take on Houston on Friday before facing South Alabama.
