JAGUAR SOCCER FALLS TO NORTH TEXAS 2-1 IN FIRST ROUND OF SBC TOURNAMENT

DENTON, Texas - South Alabama soccer fell to North Texas 2-1 in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Wednesday in Denton, Texas.

"I’m proud of the team," USA head coach Mike Varga said. "It was a tough year, but I’m proud of how we finished strong. It’s too bad it had to end like it did, but the team fought hard and I’m proud of them for that."

North Texas took a 1-0 lead at the 27:56 mark of the first half when Shannon Gorrie netted her first goal of the season from 30 yards out.

The Jags answered late in the first half when Kelly Tarrant tied the game 1-1 on a penalty kick at the 44:04 mark.

UNT scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick by Kelli Lunsford at the 59:21 mark of the second half.

USA finished the season with a 6-11-3 overall record. North Texas (15-3-1, 8-2-1) outshot the Jags 22-9 in the contest.
