BRADENTON, Fla.. ? South Alabama’s women’s golf team finished tied for 15th after shooting a second-round 315 Tuesday at the Waterlefe Golf and River Club.
Claudia Wolf paced the Jags with a final-round 76. Combined with her first-round 78, Wolf tied for 37th individually with a two-round total of 154. The tournament was originally scheduled for three rounds, but thunderstorms shortened the first day and officials decided to reduce the tournament to 36 holes. The Jags opened with a 316 Monday.
“We were one shot better than yesterday, so it was a little better, but not much,” head coach T.J. Jackson said. “We made too many mistakes for this type of golf course. While we had some good stretches, those mistakes really hurt us. We’ve got two weeks before Nicholls State, so we’ll get back to work to get ready for that one.”
Ana Garcia’s 78 was the Jags’ second-best score of the day. She shot 84 Monday to give her a final score of 162. Shirley Harvey shot 78-80, Nina Offenberg added 78-81, and Darah Newell shot 82 both days.
The Jags return to action Oct. 20-21 at the L.D.R. Investments/Lady Colonel Collegeiate. Nicholls State hosts the tournament, originally scheduled at Ellendale Country Club in Houma, La., but moved to The Bridges Golf Club in Bay St. Louis, Miss. after Hurricane Gustav damaged much of the Houma area.
