TIROP WINS JACKSON STATE INVITATIONAL; WOMEN PLACE THIRD BEHIND MOH

CLINTON, Miss. - Junior Micah Tirop earned another first-place finish Friday, capturing top honors at the Jackson State Invitational at Choctaw Trails. He ran a time of 25.12.77 in the 8k race, an average of 5.04.04 per mile. Meanwhile, the Lady Jaguars placed third in the final team standings behind Clarisse Moh's second-place finish.

Sophomore Antipah Sugut ran well for the men’s team with a time of 26.07.26, placing him third overall. Freshman Gavin Carter (22nd) was the next Jaguar to finish with a 31.20.82, while senior Michael Davis (29th) followed with a time of 32.05.03. Freshman Luke Kogo didn’t finish due to injury during his second lap, but is expected to fully recover before next week's competition. The DNF knocked the Jaguars out of the men's team competition.

On the women’s side, Moh finished with a time of 20.29.81 over the 5K course. “The course felt good but the indication of splits was a little hard. I need a little more practice to reach my competition level,” Moh noted.

Finishing in ninth place was senior Cassandra Perkins with a time of 21.30.80, while junior Louise Faye ran 22.45.81 to finish 14th. Senior Melissa Womble also recorded a top-20 finish, coming in at 18th (23.22.61). Chyana Bradley rounded out the squad with a time of 26.21.41.

“I am happy that both of our teams ran well" head coach Lee Evans said "I am also extremely pleased for our top finishers Clarisse Moh, Cassandra Perkins, Micah Tirop, and Antipah Sugut".

The Jaguars will continue competition next week in Memphis, Tenn. at the Brooks Memphis Twilight. All Jaguar results can be accessed on usajaguars.com.
