JAGS FINISH SBC TOURNEY IN EIGHTH PLACE

ORLANDO, Fla. ? The University of South Alabama men’s golf team finished the final round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, firing a team score of 296 Wednesday. The Jags finished the 54 hole tournament in eighth place and shot a total score of 903. Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee each shot 869, but ULL won the NCAA at-large bid in a two-team playoff. Middle Tennessee golfer Craig Smith recorded a five-under par 211 to win the medalist honors.

“We played our best round of the tournament today and we got four very good scores,” said men’s coach Ben Hannan. “I thought Marc played extremely well the whole tournament and we have a lot to look forward to next year.”

Freshman Marc-Etienne Bussieres once again led USA, with an even-par 72. Junior Jonny Caldwell fired a one-over par 73, while sophomores Daniel Burns and Dan Swomley recorded 75 and 76, respectively. Senior Dane Thorogood finished out his college career carding 80.

Behind Lafayette and Middle Tennessee, New Orleans (870) finished one stroke back in third place. Denver came in fourth turning in 878, while North Texas rounded out the top-five with 881.

Lafayette golfer Peter Badawy led the Ragin Cajuns in second place recording 212. Dustin Thompson of North Texas finished in third with 213, while two New Orleans teammates finished in fourth with 215, Jose Toledo and Jason Kuperman.
