LADY JAGS FINISH SBC TOURNEY IN SIXTH PLACE
ORLANDO, Fla. ? The University of South Alabama women’s golf team finished the final round of the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament, firing 310 Wednesday. The Lady Jags finished the tournament in fifth place after recording a 54 hole score of 930. Denver gained the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament scoring 893, while Pioneer golfer Stephanie Sherlock was the medalist carding 219.
“We are definitely disappointed with the way we finished, but this team really accomplished a lot this year and I am proud of them,” said head coach T.J. Jackson. “I think the difference was we couldn’t get a third and fourth score each day and that hurt us.”
Senior Elin Andersson led USA on Wednesday with a 75, sophomore Darah Newell turned in a five-over par 77 and senior Michelle Toth carded 78. Junior Sara Marti and sophomore Shirley Harvey each turned in 80.
Sherlock’s teammate Emily Hoeper (222) finished in second place, three strokes back of the leader. Maria Hernandez (223) of Florida Atlantic finished in third, Denver golfer Katie Kempter recorded 224, while Taryn Durham and Toth finished tied for fifth with 225.
Behind Denver, was second place Florida International (906) and third place Florida Atlantic (919). Middle Tennessee and UALR finished tied in fourth place, scoring 922.
