SOUTH ALABAMA?S BABICOVA NAMED SUN BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS ? University of South Alabama's women's tennis player Michaela Babicova was named the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on Thursday by the league office.  USA’s Dias Doskarayev was also selected for the honor of the men’s side to complete the sweep for the Jags.

The sophomore netter recorded a perfect 2-0 mark in singles play this past week for South Alabama with a pair of straight set victories.  On Thursday, Babicova, playing in the No.1 position for the first time this season, upset Clemson's Carl Salge (6-3, 6-3) and followed it up with a (6-3, 6-2) win over Louisiana-Monroe's Noelia Leon.  Babicova is now 16-5 on the season in singles play, including an 8-3 mark this spring.  The victory over Salge, then ranked No. 44 in the nation, was also her second victory over a ranked opponent this spring.  Last week, she also went 1-1 in doubles competition with her partner Dijana Stanic.

Babicova for the first time in her career also earned a national ranking this past week.  In the latest ITA Singles Rankings, the Piestany, Slovakia native moved to No. 117.  Fellow singles player Adrianna Solarova is also ranked this season, coming in at No. 46.

USA will next host No. 47 Washington State on Tuesday, March 13 at 10 a.m.
