CLEMSON, S.C. - 20th ranked Clemson snapped No. 18 South Alabama's string of 10-straight wins with a 6-1 decision on Saturday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Jaguars fall to 10-1 on the year, while Clemson improves to 14-4.
The match opened with the Tigers winning two of the three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. Senior Dias Doskarayev and junior R.J. Nagel won at number two, 8-4 to the Jags' lone win in doubles play.
Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, Doskarayev, won in straight sets at the top spot in singles, defeating No. 72 Clement Reix, 7-6, 6-2. Despite losing the remaining five singles matches, the Jaguars were in each one as four of the five went to three sets. USA dropped the first set of each, but won the second one and were not able to overcome its opponents in the third set.
USA will continue at the Clemson Spring Invitational against No. 75 Indiana on Sunday as well as facing No. 50 Arizona State.
