USA SOCCER HEADLINES FIRST DAY OF SUN BELT CONFERENCE TOURNEY

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of South Alabama soccer team will play the night cap of the first day of the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament, Wednesday at 7 p.m, at “The Cage.” The Jaguars (9-7-3, 4-5-2) are the eighth seed in the tournament and will be matched against the one-seed Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers, finished the regular season with an overall mark of 13-2-3 and a 8-1-2 conference record.

"We have a lot of respect for Western Kentucky and how good of a season they are having," head coach Mike Varga said. "They are a well-coached disciplined team with a lot of athleticism and will be tough for anyone to beat in the conference tournament."

The Jaguars dropped their only game of the season to Western Kentucky back on Oct. 7th. The game was one of the strongest matches USA played as they took the first-place Toppers to double-overtime before losing 1-0 on a goal in the final minute of the extra session.

"I am hopeful that we can disrupt their play some and play well our selves," Varga added. "We couldn't have a tougher match up, but I think our girls will play hard and hopefully it will be a good match."

The first game at "The Cage" on Wednesday will feature third-seeded Denver against fifth-seeded Florida Atlantic. At 1 p.m., North Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette will be matched in the four-five game. In the afternoon, second-ranked Middle Tennessee will face UALR at 4 p.m.

Tournament tickets for the Sun Belt Conference Soccer Championship can be bought at "The Cage," or by calling the USA Ticket office at (251)-460-6047. Tournament packages for adults are $15 and $8 for children ages 5-12, while all children under five are admitted for free. Single-day tournament tickets can be purchased for $7 and $4 for children. All Sun Belt Conference students are admitted for free with valid school ID.
