JAGUARS OPEN RED LION BOISE STATE INVIATIONAL WITH TWO WINS

BOISE, Idaho - The University of South Alabama men's tennis teams opened the 2006 Boise State Red Lion Invitational with two wins on Wednesday. The Jaguars (15-5), ranked 33rd according to the last ITA poll, defeated Gonzaga 6-0 and then handled College of Santa Fe, who is ranked fourth in the latest NAIA poll, 5-1.

USA began the day against Gonzaga (1-14), defeating the Bulldogs 6-0, winning all six singles matches in straight sets. The doubles portion was not played.

USA then faced the winner of Wichita State vs. College of Santa Fe. College of Santa Fe posted a tough 4-3 win over the Shockers earlier, setting up the second round match with the Jaguars. South Alabama disposed of CSF 5-1. Jaguar sophomore Jack Baker won his 10th consecutive singles match with a 6-2, 7-6 victory at the no. 1 position over Bartosz Golas. Baker improves to a team-best 14-2 in singles this season and is ranked 84th in the latest ITA poll.

CSF's lone win in singles came at the no. 2 position as Benny Althaus defeated sophomore Monte Tucker in a three set match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Jaguar sophomore R.J. Nagel posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at no. 6 over Juan Lorenzo.

The Jaguars will have Thursday off, before face top-seeded and No. 23 Boise State at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday in the semifinals.
