JAGUARS LOSE A TOUGH ONE AGAINST WILLIAM AND MARY AT BLUE/GRAY CLASSIC CONTACT: Dwayne Gatlin Match Results (.pdf) MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Perhaps the luck of St. Patrick's Day was on the side of the William and Mary Tribe, their school colors are green and gold, when they defeated the Jags in the first round consolation draw of the Blue/Gray Classic, 4-2. It was the second consecutive loss for South Alabama, after dropping their opening round match to No.56 Fresno State (4-3). The Jags got off to a good start, winning the No.1 and 2 doubles postions. Dias Doskarayev and Monte Tucker defeated Billy Mulligan and Alex Cojanu, 8-6. RJ Nagel and Jack Baker also won easily over their Tribe opponents, 8-4. In singles action, the men's team could only muster a win by Baker at the No.3. The sophomore, ranked No. 94 in the latest ITA/FILA computer rankings, won in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 5-0. Three other Jags, Tucker (at No.1), Marek Sramek (at No.5), and Mark Gellard (at No.6), played competitve matches, each taking a set from their William and Mary opponents before bowing out in the third and decisive set. South Alabama will take on Brown at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in the loser's bracket of the consolation draw. The winner of that match will place 15th in the tournament. |
