CALERA, Ala. -The University of South Alabama women’s golf team had its first round of the 2006 Samford Intercollegiate suspended due to heavy rain in Calera, Ala. Monday. The 2005 Samford Intercollegiate was also affected by rain, having the event shortened to just one round.

The field was able to complete 16 holes before the heavy rain forced play to be suspended. The tournament hosted by Samford was won by Jacksonville State in 2004 and Campbell in 2005. Last year the Lady Jags finished fourth, Susanne Jepson was the Jag top finisher followed by Elin Andersson, Sara Marti, Michelle Toth and Brooke Hubbard.

The conclusion of the first round will be followed by the second and final round starting at 8:30 a.m. at Timberline Golf Course.
