SHORTHANDED JAGUARS WITHDRAW FROM BILLY HITCHCOCK INVITATIONAL

AUBURN, Ala. - The South Alabama men’s golf team withdrew from the Billy Hitchcock Invitational on Saturday due to an injury. The Jaguars were shorthanded coming into the event as they travled only four players. USA's remaining three players did compete as individuals and made substantial improvement over Friday's results.

"It is unfortunate that this had to happen," Jaguar head coach Ben Hannan said. "Our guys are out there competiting and fighting hard. We played pretty good today."

USA's Johnny Caldwell jumped 22 spots with a 1-under 71 on the par 72, 7,207-yard Auburn University Golf Club course. Caldwell moved for tied for 48th to tied for 26th with the 71 and has a 36-hole score of 150. Daniel Burns also moved up in the field as he fired a 1-under 71 to improve on an 82 on Friday. Burns is tied for 38th with a 153 score. Scott Shouldice fired a 77, improving on his 78 from yesterday to move into a tie for 44th. Kyle Simmons had to withdraw due to an injury.

The host Tigers are 9-under as a team after they shot an 11-under 277 on Saturday for a 567 score. Charlotte is in second after shooting a 289 on Saturday to move to 581 for the tournament. Ole Miss is third with a 592 score.

The final round will begin Sunday morning.
