MOBILE,

- The University of South Alabama women's tennis team,
the No. 3 seed at the 2006 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Championships,
dropped a 4-3 decision to second seeded Denver Saturday at the Bruce
David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
“We had
our chances but just didn't convert on them,” said Jaguar
women’s tennis head coach Jaco Keyser. “Our team might
be young, but we have been in these types of situations before and
we need to battle through them.”
The Lady Jags
(15-9) opened doubles play by taking two of the three matches. Denver
(11-10) came out and captured the No. 1 position when Rachel Sackmaster
and Suzana Maksovic defeated the 57th-ranked Jag team of Adrianna
Solarova and Klara Jarova, 8-4. USA battle back and took the No.
2 spot to even things out with a 8-3 win by Sylvanie Spanenberg
and Maria Zivcicova. South Alabama captured the point when the duo
of Michaela Babicova/Dijana Stanic were victorious over Annette
Aksdal/Lorinda Boothman, 8-5, at No. 3
Denver picked
up two quick points with a pair of wins at the Nos. 2 and 4 spots,
respectively. Zivcicova evened things back up at 2-2 when she was
able to take down Rachel Sackmaster in three sets at No. 3. The
Jag netter dropped the first set 6-4 but bounced back to take the
next two 6-0 and 6-4. Stanic gave USA the lead again with a pair
of 6-1 victories at the No. 5 position over Marisa Mechem.
The Pioneers,
however, tied the contest back up at 3-3 when 112th-ranked Suzana
Maksovic defeated 62nd-ranked Adrianna Solarova in three sets (6-4,
5-7, 6-3) at No. 1. Lorinda Boothman clinched the match when she
defeated USA's Jarova 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot.
Denver will
now take on Florida International in the championship match at 10
a.m. at the Lubel Courts, while USA will face Troy in the consolation
match at the Mobile Tennis Center.
