NO. 38 JAGUAR TENNIS HEADS TO SOUTHERN MISS SUNDAY

The No. 38 Jaguar men's tennis teams heads to Southern Miss on Sunday to battle the Golden Eagles at 1 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Ms. The Jaguars stand at 16-6, while Southern Miss is 4-10 on the year. USA enters the match after a week off and has won four of its last five, while Southern Miss has dropped four of its last five.

Leading the way for the Jaguars this season is sophomore Jack Baker who is 80th according to the latest ITA singles poll. He is 15-3 in single dual matches this spring and won 11 straight to open the year. Robert Hodel (14-4), Marek Sramek (14-6) and Filip Kricka (13-3) each had the best singles records on the sqaud in terms of wins.

In doubles play, Sam Huffman and Kricka, who uusally play at the No. 3 doubles position, are 10-6 this spring to lead the team. The No. 1 tandem of Dias Doskarayev and Monte Tucker are 5-5 as is the Baker and Hodel tandem.

Southern Miss is led by Reid Bourgeouis who is 10-10 in singles action this spring. He usually plays at No. 4 position in singles. Dylan Mezey is second on the team in singles wins with a 9-11 record.

In doubles, the Golden Eagles have won just 14 doubles matches against 31 losses. The duo of Domagoj Anic and Bourgeois are 4-3 to lead the team.

After the Southern Miss match, USA will head to the Sun Belt Shootout in Murfreesboro, Tenn., next weekend (April 8-9). USA will face Middle Tennessee, Louisiana-Lafayette and Troy in a round-robin format. The Jaguars will then take a week off before hosting the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the Bruce Lubel Memorial Courts beginning Friday, April 21.
