WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH AT SAMFORD INTERCOLLEGIATE

CALERA, Ala. - The University of South Alabama women's golf team finished fifth at the 2006 Samford Women's Golf Intercollegiate on Tuesday in the 15-team field.. The Jaguars shot a team score of 634. The team was led by Elin Andersson who finished tied for eighth after shooting a pair of 77's.

"We identified some weaknesses that we need to work on in practice and be ready to go against Southern Miss," Jaguar head coach T.J. Jackson said. "Maybe this will be a good wake up call for us before conference."

Birmingham Southern won the tournament after shooting a 602, followed by Jacksonville State at 616 and McNeese State at 626 to round out the top three teams. BSC's Emily Klein took home medalist honors after shooting a two round score of 147 on the par 71, 5,803 yard Timberline Golf Course.

The Jaguars opened the tournament shooting a team score of 318 and followed with a 31 for a 634 team score. Susanne Jepson fired a 79-77 for a 156 and tied for 14th, followed by Michelle Toth who tied for 28th after firing an 80 in the first round and 81 in the second round. Sara Marti and Alexis Beard tied for 33rd after both players shot 82-81 for a 163.

The Lady Jags will be back on the course Lady Eagle Invitational on April 10-11 at Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Hattiesburg, Ms.
