MOBILE,
Ala. - The University of South Alabama women's tennis team
opened the 2006 dual match season Friday afternoon with a 5-2 victory
over North Florida at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
"Today
was a good start for us," said South Alabama women's tennis
head coach Jaco Keyser. "We have plenty of new faces in the
line up, so we were glad to get the season underway. We still have
plenty of room for improvement and we will use this as a starting
point."
USA came out
in the doubles portion of the match and made quick work of the Ospreys,
sweeping all three doubles matches. The Jag duos of Michaela Babicova/Adrianna
Solarova (8-6), Dijana Stanic/Jelena Krivacevic (8-2) and Sylvanie
Spanenberg/Klara Jarova (8-5) each started the spring season off
in the win column.
The Jag women
continued their impressive performance with straight set victories
at the Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 positions.
South Alabama
will continue its season on Saturday when the Lady Jags take on
Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. on the USA campus.
"Tommorrows
match starts a tough stretch for us," said Keyser. "Southeastern
Louisiana was a NCAA tournament team last season and is going to
be a good early test for us to see what we are made of."
