MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama head cross country/track and field Lee Evans has combined with renowned track biographer Frank Murphy to tell the story the former 400m record-holder. Entitled, The Last Protest: Lee Evans in Mexico City, is about the journey the California native took to become an champion at the 1968 Olympic Games. The book will be available to the public on April 1, 2006.
"I am very pleased that the book is out and part of my story can be told," Evans said, "It is not only part of my experience, but a part of America's history as well."

NBC's local affiliate WPMI channel 11, will air interview with Evans during their Olympic coverage, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. (C.T.)
Murphy begins the biography from the Evans' collegiate years at San Jose State University, nicknamed "Speed City" for their years of prominence in track and field during the 1960's. Evans was recently honored with induction in the SJSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 1983, Evans was inducted into the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame and in 1989, he became a member of the Olympic Hall of Fame. During 1993, Evans received the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award for his Humanitarian work in Africa and Asia. At the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, Evans was named a 100 Golden Olympian. On Nov. 18, 2002, he was honored with the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) Athletic Excellence Award for his time as an athlete.
