PLACES NINE PLAYERS ON SBC 30-YEAR ANNIVERSARY TEAM AND SWEEP ALL-TIME

ORLEANS - The University of South Alabama women's tennis
team had a league best nine former players named to the Sun Belt
Conference's 30-year Anniversary team Wednesday. Former Lady Jag
Estelle Gevers was named the best women's player over that time
and current USA men's coach and former women's coach Scott Novak
was named the league's all-time coach. The selections were made
by a 26-member media panel from around the conference.

Time Women’s Coach* Scott Novak (South Alabama)
Current Jaguar men's head coach Scott Novak served as both the women’s
head coach and men’s head coach from 1993-99. During that
stretch, he led USA women to seven SBC titles and four NCAA Tournament
appearances, including one in 1999 NCAA Championships. While at
USA he has also led the South Alabama men to 11 SBC Tournament titles
and 10 NCAA appearances, twice advancing to the championship round
1995 and 2001.

Time Women's Player* Estelle Gevers (South Alabama, 1993-96)
Gevers earned all-conference honors all four-years at USA (1993,
1994, 1995, 1996) and was the SBC Tournament MVP 1993, ’94,
’95.
Viktoria
Stoklasova (South Alabama, 2001-03)
While at USA, Stoklasova earned all-conference honors in 2003 and
was named an All-American in singles play during that same year.
As a senior, she advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Singles Championships.
Amanda Mitropoulou (South Alabama, 1990-92)
Mitropoulou earned all-conference honors in 1992 and 1993 and was
the 1992 SBC Tournament MVP.
Cindy Summers (South Alabama, 1995-97
Summers earned all-conference honors in 1995, ’96, ’97.
She was also a two-time Sun Belt Conference Tournament MVP (1996
and 1997).
Tasmin Staples (South Alabama, 1994-97)
The former Lady Jag earned all-conference honors in 1994, ’95,
’96, ’97.
Natasha Villarroel (South Alabama, 1993-95)
Villarroel also earned all-conference honors in 1993, ’94,
’95.
Martina Ondrejkova (South Alabama, 1997-00)
Ondrejkova, an all-conference player in 1998, ’99, 2000, was
named the 2000 Sun Belt Conference Tournament MVP. She also earned
All-American honors in singles play in 2000 and doubles play in
1999 and 2000.
Iva Puflerova (South Alabama, 1999-01)
Puflerova earned all-conference honors in 1999, 2000, and 2001 and
was an All-American in doubles in 1999 and 2000.
Vanda Novakova (South Alabama, 1997-99
Novakova earned all-conference honors in 1997 ’98, ’99.
The Jaguar women
will open the 2006 dual match season when they take on North Florida,
Friday immediately following the conclusion of the men's singles
portion of the USA vs. UNF match at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial
Tennis Courts.
