CONTACT: Kevin Beasley

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will compete in its second straight road tournament Friday-Saturday when it begins play at the Charleston Southern Tournament hosted by the Buccaneers.

USA (3-3) will face Stetson (1-5) and UNC-Greensboro (0-4) on the opening day of play. The Jags and Hatters will begin at 3 p.m. (ET) and be followed by South Alabama taking on the Spartans at 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesday night, South Alabama dropped a 3-0 decision to in-state foe Alabama. The Jaguar women continue to be led offensively by the sophomore duo of Jenna Swilley and Whitney Sanders, averaging 3.67 and 3.57 kills per game, respectively.

South Alabama and Stetson will meet for the eighth time this weekend. Last season the Hatters and the Lady Jags meet at the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla., with the Hatters taking a 3-0 victory. The last time USA faced a team from the Atlantic Sun Conference was last season when USA took a 3-1 victory over Troy in Troy.

On Tuesday night, Stetson defeated Savannah State 3-0. DeeAnn Dempsey leads the club in kills with 3.38.

South Alabama and North Carolina-Greensboro will meet for the first time this weekend. The last time South Alabama faced a team from the Southern Conference was back on Sept. 19, 2003 when the Jags captured a 3-1 victory over Wofford.

On Tuesday, UNCG dropped a 3-0 decision to High Point after dropping three games at the VCU Tournament last weekend.

Charleston Southern and South Alabama will meet for the third time at the Buccaneer tournament. The Jags have already faced an opponent from the Big South Conference when South Alabama captured a 3-1 victory in Mobile in its season opener.

CSU enters its home tournament with a 2-3 record on the season.
