LADY JAGS HEAD TO SOUTH CAROLINA TO COMPETE
IN CHARLESTON SOUTHERN TOURNAMENT

CHARLESTON,
S.C. – The
University of South Alabama volleyball team will compete in its
second straight road tournament Friday-Saturday when it begins play
at the Charleston Southern Tournament hosted by the Buccaneers.
USA (3-3) will
face Stetson (1-5) and UNC-Greensboro (0-4) on the opening day of
play. The Jags and Hatters will begin at 3 p.m. (ET) and be followed
by South Alabama taking on the Spartans at 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday night,
South Alabama dropped a 3-0 decision to in-state foe Alabama. The
Jaguar women continue to be led offensively by the sophomore duo
of Jenna Swilley and Whitney Sanders, averaging 3.67 and 3.57 kills
per game, respectively.
South Alabama
and Stetson will meet for the eighth time this weekend. Last season
the Hatters and the Lady Jags meet at the Florida State Invitational
in Tallahassee, Fla., with the Hatters taking a 3-0 victory. The
last time USA faced a team from the Atlantic Sun Conference was
last season when USA took a 3-1 victory over Troy in Troy.
On Tuesday night,
Stetson defeated Savannah State 3-0. DeeAnn Dempsey leads the club
in kills with 3.38.
South Alabama
and North Carolina-Greensboro will meet for the first time this
weekend. The last time South Alabama faced a team from the Southern
Conference was back on Sept. 19, 2003 when the Jags captured a 3-1
victory over Wofford.
On Tuesday,
UNCG dropped a 3-0 decision to High Point after dropping three games
at the VCU Tournament last weekend.
Charleston Southern
and South Alabama will meet for the third time at the Buccaneer
tournament. The Jags have already faced an opponent from the Big
South Conference when South Alabama captured a 3-1 victory in Mobile
in its season opener.
CSU enters its
home tournament with a 2-3 record on the season.
