OXFORD,
Miss. – The
University of South Alabama women's tennis team got off to a strong
start this weekend at the Ole Miss Fall Tennis Classic held at the
Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
SUNDAY RECAP
True freshman
Marion Lehmann advanced to the final day of the Ole Miss Fall Classic,
but dropped a three set decision (7-5, 3-6, 6-2) to Lindsay Brown
of Arkansas in the Silver Draw Consolation Championship round. Lehmann
finished the tournament with a 2-2 record in her first action as
a Jag.
SATURDAY RECAP
On Saturday
Dijana Stanic dropped her second round match to the draw's top seed
Nika Koukhartchouk (Ole Miss) in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Maria
Zivcicova however faired better in her first match of the day and
defeated the draw's second seed Anastasia Kugakolova of MSU 6-3,
6-1 to advance to the Quarterfinal Round. The Jag sophomore however
fell to the Rebels' Bona Somers in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
In the Blue
Singles Flight Jarova also advanced to quarterfinal action defeating
MSU's Polina Kokoulina, 6-3 and 6-3, before falling to top-seeded
Preethi Subramanian of Ole Miss 6-2, 6-0. Krivacevic had to retire
from her second round match versus Ksenia Tokarieva (OM).
In doubles action,
the Jag duo of Zivcicova and Jelena Krivacevic lost their semifinal
match to the top-seeded tandem of Tomatis and Somers of Ole Miss,
9-7.
Lehmann rebounded
from her opening day loss in the Silver Draw Consolation Flight,
recording a 2-0 record on the day. She got things started in the
morning portion with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 victory over JSU's
Alexandra Georgakopoulos and followed that with another straight
set victory over Lauren Pitcher of Samford (6-1, 6-4)

In the Red Singles
Draw of the tournament, junior netter Dijana Stanic received a first
round bye and sophomore Maria Zivcicova disposed of Southern Miss'
Sherry Price in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 to advance to Saturday's
second round of the draw.
Also advancing
on Friday for the Jags were Klara Jarova and Jelena Krivacevic in
the "Blue" Singles Draw and the doubles teams of Zivcicova/Krivacevic
and Jarova/Stanic in the Red Doubles flight. Jarova, the draw's
third seeded player, won in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 over Alet
Boonzaaier of Texas Tech, while Krivacevic defeated Noelia Leon
of Louisiana-Monroe in three sets as well (6-0, 3-6, 6-4).
Zivcicova and
Krivacevic won a pair of matches on the opening day defeating Texas
Tech's Tasheva and Boozaaier 9-7 and ULM's Sithomorada and Leon
8-4. Jarova and Stanic upset the fourth seeded Arkansas team of
Franco and Bordeleau8-5, but dropped an 8-0 decision to Koukhartchouk
and Subramanian of Ole Miss.
Also in action
on Friday was Marion Lehmann (Singles - Silver Draw). Lehmann fell
in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-2, to Elna de Villers of Mississippi
State to drop into the consolation round of the draw. Lehmann also
with Fiet of MSU and went 1-1 on the opening day of the Blue Doubles
Draw.
