MOBILE, Ala. - The South Alabama women's volleyball team snapped a three-match losing skid Tuesday night with a 3-0 (30-23, 30-19, 30-22) victory over cross-town rival Spring Hill at Jag Gym.

"The thing that we focused most on tonight was trying to be a more consistent," said South Alabama volleyball head coach Nicole Keshock. "We have had a tendency to be an up and down team during both games and matches this season. I think we did better in that area tonight, but we still have room for improvement. Overall though it was great to get the win."

South Alabama (8-17, 1-10 SBC), like it did in all three games on the night, came out and captured the opening point of the game on a Jade Nuss service ace. Spring Hill (19-9) kept battling and pushed its second lead of the game out to 16-14 after a pair of Jaguar errors. USA came out of a time out and quickly grabbed the momentum, outscoring the visiting Badgers 7-1 over the next eight points to take a 21-17 lead. SHC was only able to get as close as three the rest of the way, as the Lady Jags went on to take the opener 30-23.

In game two, South Alabama completely dominated the Badgers, taking 12 of the first 15 points. Whitney Sanders gave USA the nine-point lead on one of her nine kills on the night. Spring Hill could only get as close as eight the rest of the way and the Jags led by as many as 12 (28-16) after Via Filipe slammed home one of her match-high 12 kills. USA went on to take the 30-19 victory.

The Jags looked as if they were going to put the third contest away early, jumping out to a quick 11-7 advantage. The Badgers, however, reeled off four unanswered points to knot the contest back up at 11-all. Spring Hill, however, could not retake the lead, as USA pushed the deficit back out to four at 17-13, this time courtesy of a Shannon VanAntwerp kill. The Jags went on to take the finale 30-22 and the match, 3-0.

South Alabama out-hit Spring Hill .191 to .010 and recorded 10 service aces, four of which that came from Filipe.

Filipe led all Jags in kills, while Sanders was second on the squad with nine kills of her own. The Badgers were paced by Kristen Phillips eight on the evening.

South Alabama will close out the regular season schedule with road contest at Troy (Nov. 11 - 7 p.m.) and at Middle Tennessee (Nov. 13 - 1 p.m.)
