MADISON, Miss. - Former
Jaguar men’s golf star Heath Slocum fired a final round 66
to capture his second career PGA Tour victory at the 2005 Southern
Farm Bureau Classic, held at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss.
Slocum defeated Loren Roberts by two shots to capture top honors.
Slocum birdied
the 17th hole and pared the final hole to finish at 21 under-par
and take home the $540,000 winner’s paycheck. By capturing
his second PGA title, Slocum finishes the 2005 season in 50th place
on the money list, with just over $1.6 million.
The victory
also cements Slocum’s place in the 2006 Mercedes Championships
in Hawaii. The Mercedes Championship is reserved for tournament
winners during the 2005 season. Slocum participated in the Mercedes
this season after his first win, the 2005 Chrysler Classic of Tucson,
he finished tied for 23rd and collected $75,000.
In the victory
Slocum was not alone. Spurred on by cheers from the southern crowd,
the 31 year-old who grew up in Vicksburg, Miss. had his father to
share it with. Jack Slocum, a former Mississippi golf pro, served
as his son’s caddy this week.
Slocum competed
as a Jaguar from 1993-96 where he totaled seven career wins and
was the first Jag to earn All-American Honors. In 1994 and 1995
Slocum led South Alabama to back-to-back conference titles.
