DENTON, Texas -
The South Alabama women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-21, 30-20, 30-20) decision to North Texas Sunday afternoon at the Snake Pit.

South Alabama (7-17, 1-10 SBC) came out strong in the opener versus the Mean Green (12-17, 6-5 SBC), jumping out to an early 8-3 lead on a Whitney Sanders kill, one of her team-high 11 on the day. North Texas regained the momentum from the Jags and took its first lead of the afternoon at 13-12 on a Catherine Coffey put away. The two clubs battled back and forth until, with UNT holding a one-point advantage, the Mean Green ended the game on a 10-2 spurt to take game one 30-21.

Game two saw the home-standing Mean Green hold on to the momentum from the first game and jump out to a quick 6-1 lead. USA was able to cut the deficit to as close as three on two occasions before falling 30-20 to North Texas.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, USA's Summer Pilgrim gave the Jags a brief lead at 6-5 with one of her 10 kills on the day. The lead however was the last that South Alabama would have as North Texas' Katie Prokof ignited a 9-1 run to put the Mean Green out to a comfortable lead at 15-7. UNT never allowed the Lady Jags to get any closer than six the rest of the way and went on to take the finale 30-20 and the match 3-0.

Sanders led all Jags with 11 kills, while Pilgrim recorded a hitting percentage of .471 to go along with her 10 kills. Prokof had a match-high 15 kills on the afternoon, while Tara Hooser also finished with double figures in that category with 12.

North Texas was aided by 31 Jaguar attack errors on the day, while the Mean Green committed just 16. UNT out hit South Alabama .275 to .066 and recorded 11 total blocks to USA's three.

South Alabama will next take on cross-town-rival Spring Hill Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Jag Gym in its final non-conference match of the season.
