MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama women's basketball (12-17, 5-13) will face App State (11-18, 4-14) in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at 11:30 a.m. CST on Tuesday at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla.
SERIES HISTORY:
The Jaguars are 8-13 against the Mountaineers, their last contest a 60-57 loss on Jan. 29 in Boone, N.C.
Daniela Gonzalez tallied a career-high 21 points.
SCOUTING THE JAGS:
- The Jaguars face the Mountaineers after a 76-69 victory over the Troy Trojans on Friday to conclude the regular season. Tamara Ortiz scored 18 points, Cordasia Harris recorded a double-double (17 points and 14 rebounds) and Diawna Carter-Hartley tallied a career-high five assists.
- South Alabama ranks in the national top-40 in offensive rebounds per game (14.7), rebounds per game (40.76) and three-point percentage defense (27.7).
- Cordasia Harris ranks in the national top-40 in double-doubles (12), blocks (49) and blocks per game (1.69).
- Head Coach Yolisha Jackson has led the Jaguars to win three consecutive league games, the most since 2020-21.
- The Jaguars have not won a game in the conference tournament since March 5, 2021, when they beat Arkansas State in the first round 73-64.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS:
- App State faces the Jaguars after a 74-65 loss to Old Dominion on Saturday.
- The Mountaineers went 11-18 for the season and 4–14 in league play.
- Emma Smith leads the team in points per game (10.79), rebounds per game (6.03), assists (106) and steals (60).
- Alaura Sharp is in her second season at the helm, earning a 24-35 record.
