NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference named South Alabama women's tennis players to both of the league's weekly awards, the Sun Belt announced Wednesday.
Rio Maeda won Player of the Week, and Maeda and
Jana Rovira won Doubles Team of the Week.
Maeda and Rovira led the Jaguars to a 2-0 finish last week against #74 Elon and Campbell.
At No. 1 in the singles draw, Maeda went 2-0, winning in straight sets against Bergeron (Elon) and Mari Marti (Campbell). She is 7-2 for the season.
Maeda/Rovira was the lone Jaguar pair to win both matches this week, winning 6-3 at No. 2 against both opponents. The pair is 6-1 overall.
The Jaguars boast a spot in the ITA Top-75, holding #58. They are also 10-0 for the season, their best start since 2023.
South Alabama will face Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State in a pair of road matches on March 20 and 21 in Kennesaw, Ga., and Jacksonville, Ala., respectively.
