KEY MOMENTS:
  • The Jaguars' offense struggled in the first quarter, shooting 2-for-17 from the field. Meanwhile, Troy's Emani Jenkins scored 14 points, including draining four three-pointers – the last one giving the Trojans a 25-10 lead to end the quarter.
  • South Alabama's offense started clicking in the second quarter, Alicia Spann shooting from the field at a perfect clip and Amyah Sutton and Chrysta Narcisse draining three-pointers. The Jaguars had an improvement of 26.1% in their shooting percentage compared to the first quarter.
  • The Jaguar backcourt turned up the heat, holding Troy to 27.2% from the field before the Trojans went on a 14-5 run to end the first half.
  • Troy's offense lit up the court in the third quarter, the Trojans going on a 12-2 run to open up the second half. Cordasia Harris would end the run with a put-back layup, but the Trojans would extend their lead to 28 with six minutes left in the quarter.
  • South Alabama responded early in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points before the Trojans called a timeout with just over seven minutes left on the clock. Diawna Carter-Hartley led the effort, shooting 3-for-3 from the field.
  • The Jaguars continued their momentum, draining 10 field goals compared to the Trojans' three. They would cut their deficit to eight with three minutes on the clock, but four missed shots would cause the Jaguars to come up short, 84-73.

QUOTED:
Yolisha Jackson, Head Coach:
  • On the team's overall performance:
    • "I'm really proud of our effort and our 'no quit' mentality. The first quarter was rough – we didn't shoot the ball like we normally shoot the ball, especially from three. Once we found our groove and started attacking the paint and getting downhill, it opened up a lot of things. It was great to see five kids in double figures. It was also great to take a team that leads the country in rebounding, averaging 18.5 offensive boards a game, and to hold them under that. I'm really proud of our group."
  • On her senior post players:
    • "It was really good to see Cordasia Harris (Lu) get back to displaying what she's capable of. In the second half, she ended up being like 'old Lu.' She had three steals, and that's when you know that she's really engaged on both sides of the ball. I can't say enough about Daniela Gonzalez's play, her almost with a triple-double."

UP NEXT:
The Jaguars will travel to Texas State for their regular-season road finale at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday at Strahan Arena in San Marcos, Texas.
