Box Score BOONE, N.C. – South Alabama women's basketball fell to App State on Thursday, 60-57. The Jaguars are now 2-8 in league play.
KEY MOMENTS:
- Both teams opened play with turnovers before the Mountaineers put two on the board. However, the Jaguars responded with a 7-0 run, including a three-ball from Daniela Gonzalez. They would finish the quarter with a 16-8 lead over the Mountaineers.
- The Mountaineers would turn up the heat in the second quarter, going on a 9-0 run and shooting 4-for-4 from the field. This resulted in a 20-percent increase in their shooting percentage, App State shooting 54.5% at the half. The Mountaineers would lead the Jaguars 29-28.
- South Alabama struggled offensively in the third quarter, not scoring a field goal for nearly five minutes.
- The Jaguars' backcourt stepped up in the fourth quarter, holding App State to a three-minute scoring drought, in which they shot 0-for-4 from the field.
- After being down seven early, the Jaguars came back to cut their deficit to one. From then on, all points came from the charity stripe, minute one Mountaineer layup. App State would outscore the Jaguars 6-5, winning the tilt 60-57.
KEY STATS:
- South Alabama recorded 13 steals today, a season-high.
- Daniela Gonzalez scored 21 points today, a career-high. The senior from Jamundi, Colombia, went 6-for-14 from the field and 4-for-8 from downtown.
- Tamara Ortiz recorded 6 assists, a career-high. Ortiz has either set or tied her career-high in assists for three consecutive games.
- The Jaguars recorded 14 turnovers, the team's lowest since North Alabama (12/14/25).
