BOONE, N.C. – South Alabama women's basketball (9-10, 2-7) is set to take on App State (9-10, 2-7) at 5:30 p.m. CST on Thursday at Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C.
SERIES HISTORY:
The Jaguars are 8-12 against the Mountaineers, their last matchup an 82-67 deficit on Jan. 2, 2025, at the Mitchell Center. Despite the loss, this matchup marked the last time a Jaguar scored 30 points (
Amyria Walker).
SCOUTING THE JAGS:
- South Alabama travels to Boone after a 69-46 loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday. Tamara Ortiz scored 19 points, a season-high.
- Ortiz has recorded season highs in scoring for four consecutive games: ULM (13, 1/10), Coastal Carolina (14, 1/17), Georgia State (15, 1/22) and Georgia Southern (19, 1/24).
- The Jaguars continue to dominate downtown, leading the Sun Belt in three-point percentage defense (26.2). On Saturday, they held Georgia Southern to 9.1 percent from beyond the arc.
- South also ranks second in the Sun Belt in three-point percentage, shooting 33.7 percent for the season.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS:
- The Mountaineers host the Jaguars after a four-game road stretch, in which they went 1-3. Most recently, they defeated Louisiana 68-48 on Friday.
- App State leads the Sun Belt in scoring defense (58.0) and fouls per game (15.9), and ranks second in field goal percentage (43.9) and assist/turnover ratio (0.92).
- Three Mountaineers are averaging double-figures: Jayden McBride (10.53), Daisia Mitchell (10.42) and Emma Smith (10.05).
