Hugo Thyr Prepares for his Third NCAA Regional

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Junior Hugo Thyr ready's for his third NCAA Regional appearance as an individual representative.

Thyr's other individual competitors are fellow Sun Belt athlete Malan Potgieter from Louisiana, NaShawn Tyson from Florida Atlantic, Niilo Maki-Petaja from Louisiana Tech (who competed with Thyr at the Baton Rouge Regional in 2024), and Gaspar Glaudas from Stetson, newly crowned ASUN Conference Individual Champion.

Thyr competed at the 2023 Auburn Regional, finishing T-23rd on a five-over-par performance, and tied for 58th at the 2024 Baton Rouge Regional.

QUOTES

Q: Is there a different mentality entering this regional as an at-large bid rather than a conference champion?

I would say it's pretty comfortable having a solid year behind me moving into postseason play but I wouldn't say it changes my mentality going into the tournament. However, with it being my third time playing regionals as an individual I feel pretty ready to compete and it would be sweet to make it through to nationals.

Q: You'll be competing at Seminole Legacy Golf Club. Is there something specifically you've been working on that you will look to translate into playing this course?

When it comes to preparing for the course, I have put some extra effort into the things in my game that I haven't really felt comfortable with finishing the regular season rather than focusing on what's ahead of me. I know if my game is in a good spot it's competitive at any course and against anyone so it's more about bringing the best Hugo there.

Q: You'll be playing with some familiar names, Malan Potgieter from Louisiana and Niilo Maki-Petaja from Louisiana Tech, along with the ASUN champion Gaspar Glaudas. What is your thought process for lining up with not only the great teams that will be in Tallahassee, but also a strong group of individuals?

It's always nice to play with good players and personally I've always enjoyed playing with good players and the best fields. It's exciting teeing it up with familiar faces so that's something I'm looking forward to.
