Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Jags Fall to Miami Despite Doubles Win

MIAMI – Despite starting the match strong by winning the doubles point, South Alabama Men's Tennis could not hold on in singles play as Miami won Tuesday's match by a score of 4-1.

The Jaguars' record moved to 3-8 in defeat.

"Today was a missed opportunity," said South Alabama head coach Nick Brochu. "We had Miami right where we wanted them. We came out and played some great doubles. We had the momentum, then the rain started and we had to stop play for about an hour, and when singles started, it was a different match."

Victor Frumholz and Harold van Raemdonck teamed up to get the Jags started in doubles play by beating their opponents 6-1 on court No. 3. After South lost on court one, it came down the No. 2 spot where Braden Hannig and Javier Montoya were doubles partners. Their match came down to a tiebreak, but the Jags prevailed in the form of a 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the team score.

When the match switched to singles play, the Hurricanes quickly shifted the momentum and took control of the match. Miami got wins on courts two, six, three and one to clinch the necessary four points to win the match. On court five, Juan Accossatto held a one set lead, but his match went unfinished.

The Jags will stay in Florida for their next match when they take on Florida Atlantic on Thursday, March 6. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. CT.
