TROY, Ala.- South Alabama fell to Troy in Trojan Arena Thursday night in a 60-99 final.
 
Both sides came out the gates swinging in the early going with high-tempo offense being the theme for the opening quarter. Michiyah Simmons brought the Jaguars to within two as she knocked down a pull-up jumper to bring South to within two. Unfortunately, the hosts went on a 14-0 run that extended their lead to as much as 15. Amyria Walker and Daniela Gonzalez helped put a dent in the lead with back-to-back free throws to close out the quarter as South Alabama trailed 35-17.
 
The Jaguars got off to a much better start in the second quarter as Chrysta Narcisse drilled a three and forced a jump ball to cut the deficit to 15. South struggled to shoot efficiently for the remainder of the half as the Trojan defense applied heavy pressure and forced turnovers. South entered the half behind 50-28 after a Daniela Gonzalez tip-in.
 
South Alabama's shooting struggles followed them into the second half as the Trojan offense continued to score at will. Tara Green provided some spark in the South offense by coming off the bench and finishing with seven points and seven rebounds in 14 minutes of action. South continued to give a valiant effort for the rest of the way but fell in a 99-60 final.
 
STATS
Rachel Leggett led South in points with 18 off another efficient night from the field, going 8-15 and grabbing six rebounds. Daniela Gonzalez recorded her third double-double of the season as she poured in 14 and grabbed 10 rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
South will look ahead to Saturday as they head to Reed Green Coliseum to take on Southern Miss at 2:00 PM.
