THE PIN SHEET
-The Git-R-Done Husker Invitational has been made possible through the tremendous support of Dan Whitney (Larry the Cable Guy), whose famous catch phrase "Git-R-Done" has become the namesake of Nebraska's home men's golf tournament
-The first event was held at Firethorn as a two-round tournament on Saturday, April 13, 2019, with Arkansas winning ahead of runner-up Nebraska.
-The 2020 Git-R-Done Husker Invitational was scheduled for April 11-12 at Firethorn, but was canceled due to the pandemic.
-The 2021 Git-R-Done Husker Invitational grew to a nine-team event over 54 holes. Kansas State and Minnesota shot an even 852 to tie for first, with host Nebraska placing fourth with an 871 team score.
-Firethorn is a prairie-style golf course featuring a Pete Dye design. Accuracy is demanded throughout the more than 7,000- yard course with intimidating tee shots, water hazards, fescue and subtle green contours.
QUOTES
Head Coach Ben Hannan
On what his expectation is for the newcomers on the team
We are playing a different line-up this week and on paper a younger line-up as well with one junior, two sophomores and two freshmen. We have been playing well at home and qualifyings scores have been very competitive. I'm excited to see how this talented and younger group takes it on the road and how they respond to the opportunity this week as it will be a first for some.
On what challenges are presented when playing in a different environment like the Great Plains
We always try to schedule a few events out of the region every year to help expose our team to different grasses and course styles. The biggest difference will be adjusting to the pitching and chipping with a change of grass compared to the typical bermuda we see. Firethorn is a Tom Fazio design, so the greens will be sloppy and severe with a lot of speed. It's a hard golf course and in the midwest, we will expect the wind to blow and a little cooler weather. Getting adjusted quickly will be a focus for us during the practice round.
