Cannon and O’Gorman Finish in Double Figures; South Falls on the Road to the Lions

HAMMOND, La. | Abryanna Cannon and Maradith O'Gorman each recorded double-digit kill tallies, but it wasn't enough as South Alabama fell 3-1 (25-27, 25-16, 26-24, 25-12) at Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday afternoon at the University Center.
.
The loss was the third-straight for the Jags (1-4), while the Lions improved to 3-4 on the year.

Cannon had 15 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season, while O'Gorman added 10. Briana Wilson (24) and Addison Hurst (12) also set new career best in digs with their respective totals. Evie Taylor had four of South's nine service aces, while Erika Spankus had two

Southeastern Louisiana (3-4) was led offensively by Cicily Hidalgo's match-high 17 kills who also added nine digs and a pair of block assists to go along with her .421 hitting percentage. Hannah Brewer finished with 11 kills and 14 digs

Defensively, Southeastern finished with two solo blocks and 26 block assists to limit the Jaguars to a .121 hitting percentage. India Bennett (seven block assists) and Alexis Logarbo (one block solo and six block assists) each recorded seven total blocks, while Keira Beverly had six block assists.

Quotable – head coach Jesse Ortiz
- On his thoughts on the match and the defense of Southeastern Louisiana: "I thought (Southeastern Louisiana) was really impactful with their pins and they did a great job. We knew (Alexis Logarbo) was going to be good. They definitely were making us work on the pins and they were low error. I think those things combined, where if you're able to be offensive on the pins and keep that net long, you're not going to mess up a lot. You're going to put yourself in position to win.

- On the positive take aways from the match: "I thought there were some good moments, so things that we did really well. I think we are continually progressing, but we have a ways to go. We just have to keep on working to be a little more efficient. There are things I think we are doing really well and it's tough to keep the group motivated in regards to some of the things that seem harder in volleyball. The serve and pass is usually something that people are struggling with, but we've been able to do a pretty good job of that. We just need to get it to the next step where it turns into offense. We're going to keep on growing our young group.

"I thought we had a few players that had some tremendous games. I thought Abryanna (Cannon) was great. We need a whole team effort though. We're growing, but we're definitely taking some lumps right now in the short term."
