NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama women's tennis player
Elysia Pool has been named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The honor is the first of her career.
Pool went 2-0 in singles action over the weekend, both from the number two singles spot. In Saturday's match vs Marshall, Pool gave the Jaguars a 2-0 advantage over Marshall with a win from court two, beating Emma Vanderheyden 6-3, 6-1. On Sunday, Pool earned her 14th win of the season with a 6-3, 7-5 win on court two over Taya Powell, clinching the win for the Jaguars.
In doubles action, Pool and her partner
Tereza Dejnozkova went 2-0 in doubles action from court one, winning 6-1 over Marshall's No. 1 doubles team and 6-4 over App State's No. 1 team.
Pool leads the Jaguar squad with 14 singles wins and 12 doubles wins.
Pool and the Jaguars hit the road for the final time this season on Saturday, traveling to Southern Miss.
