South Alabama drops first conference match of the season at Troy

TROY, Ala. – The Jaguars dropped their first conference match of the 2024 season on Sunday, falling to the Troy Trojans 5-2 in Troy.
 
The Jaguars claimed the first win of the day, following a 7-5 win from Tereza Dejnozkova and Elysia Pool over Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva from Troy.
 
Troy evened the doubles score with a 6-3 win from Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Leena Metwally, beating Nikola Novotna and Manal Ennaciri.
 
The Trojans claimed the doubles point with a 7-5 win from number two doubles, after the South duo of Chems Doha Zeghlouli and Lara van der Merwe lost to Kristina Kukaras and Emilia Namyslo.
 
After winning the doubles point, Troy carried their momentum into singles, claiming wins on four of six singles courts.
 
Valeriia Avdeeva gave Troy a 2-0 advantage on the day, winning 7-5, 6-1 over Manal Ennaciri from number four singles.
 
Elysia Pool put the Jaguars on the board with her 10th win of the season, defeating Hagar Ramadan-Amin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
 
The Jaguars evened the score a 2-2 on the day with a win from Tereza Dejnozkova from the number one spot, where she beat Kristina Kukaras 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).
 
With the match tied, the Trojans went on to win the final three courts, claiming the rivalry win.
 
Gabrielle Leslie got the Trojan rally started with a 7-5, 6-0 defeat of Otoha Aoki on court six, while Maria Guirguis clinched the win for the Trojans with a 6-4, 7-6, (7-2) win over Nikola Novotna on court three.
 
Troy closed the day with one last win, this time from Leena Metwally, where she beat Chema Doha Zeghlouli 5-7, 7-5, 10-7.
