FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Playing the second of back-to-back matches in Arkansas, South Alabama fell to the Razorbacks, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville.
 
The loss dropped the Jaguars to 2-2 overall on the season.
 
"Today was another big battle. We're coming home this weekend 0-2, but I'm actually taking a lot of positives out of this trip," said head coach Nick Brochu. "We have a very young team, but we were able to come out here and play two very strong teams and be really competitive. We played 12 singles matches, and we were very competitive in 11 out of those 12."
 
After dropping the doubles point, South moved to singles where it competed in several close matches. Juan Accossatto provided the Jags with their only win on the day, defeating Arkansas' Alan Sau Franco 6-4, 6-6 (7-4). Jack Clements also played a tight match against No. 117 Gerard Planelles, winning the first set 7-6 (10-8). Planelles then came back to tie the match in the second set, and ultimately beat Clements in a super tiebreak 10-6.
 
"Juan came up big," Brochu added. "He played a big match. We've been working on him being aggressive, and not just relying on putting balls in. He responded very well. Yesterday he was a position and dropped his match, so today was good the way he bounced back and really went after it."
 
The Jaguars will remain on the road for one more match against another SEC opponent in LSU. South Alabama will invade Baton Rouge on Friday, Feb. 2 before returning home to take on in-state rival UAB on Sunday, Feb. 4.
