Jags Dominate Southern to Move to 2-0

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama won every match it played against Southern Sunday afternoon, dominating the Jaguars 5-0.

The win moved South Alabama to 2-0 on the season. It was also the 25th consecutive home victory for the Jags.

USA made quick work of the two doubles matches on the day, winning both contests 6-0. Jack Clements and Juan Accossatto teamed up to defeat Barnabas Kalaba and Gabriel Inyang in six games while the freshman duo of Harold van Raemdonck and Theo Mottier combined for a perfect outing against Lwazi Ngwenya and Jaiden Dominquez.

Singles play proved to be more work for the Jaguars, but South was still able to win every match it played. Accossatto continued his perfect day, quickly winning his match 6-0, 6-0. van Raemdonck followed by putting together a 6-1, 6-1 decision, and Braden Hannig secured a victory in straight sets on scores of 6-3, 6-2. Mottier played the most tightly-contested match of the afternoon, having to fight back after dropping the first set 1-6. Mottier quickly recovered, though, and went on to win sets two and three 6-0, 6-2 to secure the victory and sweep for South Alabama.

The Jags will now hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Arkansas for a pair of matches. USA will take on New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 27 before challenging host Arkansas on Sunday, Jan. 28.
