MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama will travel to Tallahassee, Florida to participate in the FAMU Tournament September 7-9.
The Jaguars are 6-0 moving into the toughest tournament yet, facing No. 11 Georgia Tech (4-0), Stetson (4-2), and Florida A&M (1-5).
STORYLINES
- Multiple players have shined early in the season, with three different players already tallying double-doubles, Niki Capizzi (kills and blocks), Kailey Keeble (assists and digs), and Maddie Soboleski (kills and digs).
- The South front line has consistently performed above the net, with USA being ranked 11th in the country in team total blocks (63.0), and placing 12th nationally in blocks per set (3.00).
- A volume number of assists has been constant throughout the season early on, with USA ranking 7th in the nation in assists per set (13.86), 37th in team assists (291), and Setter Kailey Keeble ranking 3rd in the nation in assists per set (11.95).
- Nonstop pressure from the offense has shown to put opponents on their heels on multiple occasions already this season. The Jaguars are 11th kills per set and lead the Sun Belt with 14.71.
FAMU TOURNAMENT
The Jags take to the road to participate in a tournament hosted by FLorida A&M for the second time in history, the first being the 1992 Florida A&M Tournament on Oct. 23rd and 24th. The Jaguars went 3-1 during the tournament, defeating Alabama State, Florida A&M, and Southern, and losing to Troy. This week USA will open with Florida A&M on Sep. 7, at 5 p.m., then face Georgia Tech on Sep. 8 at 2 p.m., and finish against Stetson on Sep. 9, at 10 a.m.

OPPONENT HISTORY
- USA is 15-0 all time vs the host team, first facing them in 1984 in a 3-1 win, and last playing them in 2022 in a 3-1 win.
- Georgia Tech leads the all-time series, 3-1 first playing in 1985 in a 3-1 win, and last facing them in 2018, losing in five sets.
- The revival of the series vs Stetson, last played in 2006, hosted by USA, where Stetson won 3-2. Stetson holds the all-time series, 6-3, and won the first meeting in a sweep in 1985.
UP NEXT
- The Jags begin a five game homestand and close out non-conference play with the Alabama Showdown from Sep. 14-16, facing Auburn, Samford, and UAB.
