AUBURN, Ala. | South Alabama freshman Hugo Thyr concluded his season with a top -25 finish at the NCAA Auburn Regional on Wednesday with an even-par (72) finish in the final round.

Thyr, the Sun Belt Conference champion and Freshman of the Year, battled back on Tuesday and Wednesday following an opening round 76. He was able to shoot a 1-over (73) to climb into the top 30 before his final round score to shoot into the top 25 with a tie for 23rd overall. The freshman, who qualified as an individual, finished third among those ten individuals who qualified – finishing behind Alex Goff (Kentucky) and Tobias Jonsson (Mercer).

The freshman started the final round off with a birdie on number one, the first of three on the front nine to start his climb up the leaderboard. Following four consecutive pars, Thyr birdied six and seven before a pair of bogeys to close out the front nine. He started the back nine with a pair of pars before Mother Nature played a key role in the tournament by suspending play for nearly an hour. He returned to the course with two more pars before a bogey at the 14th. Following a birdie at 15, Thyr went par-par-bogey to close out the tournament.

Auburn, Vanderbilt, Chattanooga, Ohio State, and Colorado State each qualified for the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale (Ariz.) with their top-five finish, while Drew Salyers (Indiana) qualified as the top individual, not on a top-five team following his 4-under (212) tournament total.
