BOONE, N.C. | South Alabama got behind early and couldn't battle back, dropping their third Sun Belt match to App State Saturday in Boone, N.C.
South got the first win in doubles action, with a 6-3 win from the duo of
Luminita Tutunaru and
Tereza Dejnozkova over Ellie Murphy and Savannah DadaMascoll.
App State evened the score with a win at number two, where Helena Jansen and Erika Dodridge defeated
Elysia Pool and
Nikola Novotna 6-2. The Mountaineers claimed the doubles point with a win on the final court, with Virginia Poggi and Maggie Pate winning 6-2 over Chems Diha Zeghlouli and
Otoha Aoki.
App State struck first in singles to extend their lead to 2-0, after Savannah DadaMascoll defeated
Nikola Novotna 6-4, 6-3.
South got on the board with a 7-5, 6-3 win from
Elysia Pool at number three, beating App State's Maggie Pate.
The Mountaineers then took a 3-1 lead after Helena Jansen defeated
Luminita Tutunaru 7-6 (7-5) 4-6, 6-1 at number one.
App State clinched the match with two tiebreaker wins at number four from Erika Dodridge, beating
Tereza Dejnozkova 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5).
The remaining matches on courts five and six went unfinished, with
Delien Kleinhans and
Chems Doha Zeghlouli both down a set.
The Jags (14-4, 4-3) stay on the road throught the weekend, playing at Marshall on Sunday.
