Elysia Pool of Jaguar women's tennis has been named the 2023 Women's Tennis Co-Newcomer of the Year, the Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday.
Pool was also named to the second team All-Conference for singles and was joined by senior
Luminita Tutunaru. The honor was the first for both Pool and Tutunaru.
Pool, an Ole Miss transfer, went 13-3 this season, going 8-2 from number three and 3-0 from number four. She finished conference play 7-1 and finished the regular season on a five-match winning streak.
In doubles action, Pool finished 9-6 overall and 5-4 in conference action, all from two number two with partner
Nikola Novotna.
Tutunaru posted a 15-5 record in the regular season, going 6-4 in conference matches. She started the season at number two, then shifted to number one singles, where she finished the year 7-5, after going 8-0 from number two.
Pool, Tutunaru and the Jaguar squad kick off postseason play Wednesday, where they take on the No. 10 seed Louisiana Ragin Cajuns at 1:30 p.m. CT.
