Jaguar women host Troy and Georgia State to open Sun Belt play

MOBILE, Ala. – After two weeks on the road, the 10-1 South Alabama women's tennis team returns home to open Sun Belt Conference play, hosting Troy on Saturday and Georgia State on Sunday. Both matches are at 10 a.m.
 
The Jag's 10-1 start is the best since 2019, where they Jags also posted a 10-1 star, before going on a three match winning streak.
 
South went 0-1 last weekend, dropping this first match of the season Florida Atlantic on the road. The Jaguar's second match of last weekend, set for North Florida, was cancelled due to weather.
 
The Jags posted a 10-1 record in conference play last season, dropping their only match to UTA on the road. The Jags were 5-0 at home in conference play last season. South went on to win the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title in Peachtree City, Ga., the 19th title in program history.
 
Troy is 7-2 on the season, dropping matches against Jacksonville State and Chattanooga. The Panthers of Georgia State are 0-9 on the year.
 
South's last match saw no wins in singles or doubles, as the match concluded when Florida Atlantic reached four points.
 
Senior Luminita Turunaru is 9-1 on the season, with eight wins at number two and one at number one. Freshman Tereza Dejnozkova is 7-1 on the season, with last week's loss being her first as a Jaguar.
 
South is 19-4 all-time against Troy, with the last loss against the Trojans coming in 2013. The last home loss against the Trojans came in 2010, when Troy beat South Alabama 5-2.
 
The Jaguars are 17-7 all-time against Georgia State and currently holds a four-match winning streak against the Panthers. South is 1-2 at home against Georgia State, with the last home loss being in 2011, where No. 64 Georgia State issued South Alabama a 7-0 loss in Mobile.
 
All home matches take place at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial tennis Courts and admission is free.
