MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama continues their five-match home stretch to open the season by hosting Mobile on Friday at 1 p.m. and West Mobile Sunday at 11 a.m.
South is 2-0 on the season, with a 5-2 win over West Alabama and a 6-1 win over AUM, while neither Mobile nor West Florida have started their seasons.
West Florida is ranked No. 22 in the ITA Division II Preseason Coaches Poll and Mobile is ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches preseason poll.
South's most recent win saw wins on five singles courts, after winning the doubles point.
Nikola Novotna,
Luminita Tutunaru,
Delien Kleinhans,
Otoha Aoki and
Chems Doha Zeghlouli earned singles wins while
Caraline Scheufler dropped her match. Novotna's win was her first as a Jaguar. Aoki, Kleinhans, Tutunaru and Zeghlouli are all 2-0 on the season for singles.
The doubles duos of Tutunaru/Notvotna and Kleinhans/Zeghlouli won their matches, while Aoki and Scheufler's went unfinished.
Mobile was 10-6 last season while West Mobile posted a 14-11 record. South is 5-1 all-time against Mobile, and the two teams haven't met since 1994. The Jags are undefeated against West Florida
All home tennis matches will be at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts and admission is free.
