MOBILE, Ala. – The Jaguars close out 2023 at the Mitchell Center on Saturday, welcoming in the Old Dominion Monarchs for an afternoon contest to begin conference play. First tip is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
South Alabama (7-5) is coming off a 34-68 loss at the hands of LA Tech, where zero Jags scored in double figures for the first time since a 59-69 loss at Alabama State on 11/28/21. On Saturday, South Alabama is looking to get its first win against Old Dominion as Sun Belt opponents and their first victory over the Monarchs since 1991.
 
Old Dominion is 8-2 on the year and is coming off a 50-87 loss to No. 3/4 NC State. The Monarchs started the season 8-0 before dropping their last two non-conference contests.
 
Saturday's game will be New Years With The Jags and fans will receive a free 2024 Jaguar Women's Basketball Calendar.

• South Alabama has five Jags who are averaging 8+ points per game: Kelsey Thompson (11.7), Michiyah Simmons (9.3), Rachel Leggett (8.9), Jordan Rosier (8.7) and Zena Elias (8.7).
• South has had five finish in double figures twice this season, and finished with four in double figures four times this season.
• Six different Jaguars have led the team in scoring through 12 games, with Kelsey Thompson leading the team four times.
• South's trip to the Denver Classic saw two new career highs, with Rachel Leggett recording a career-high 8 rebounds vs Nevada and Jordan Rosier bringing down a career-high 5 rebounds vs Denver.
• South returns 73.6% of its scoring from a year ago, including SBC Freshman of the Year Kelsey Thompson, who led the Jaguars with 10.7 points per game. South Alabama also returned its leading rebounder, Kiana Anderson, who averaged 5.8 rpg last season.
• South returns 12 from last year's squad and added four newcomers. Tyrielle Williams and Janelle Jones return to the court after missing last season due to injury.

 
Old Dominion Notes

• Old Dominion is 8-2 on the year and started the season 8-0 before falling in their last two non-conference games.
• ODU is ranked 120 in the latest NET ranking.
• En'Dya Buford leads the Monarchs with 11.0 ppg.
• Simone Cunningham averaged 7.2 rebounds per game, which leads the team.
• ODU was ranked 4^th in the Sun Belt Preseason Poll.
•  Head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones is one win away from reaching No. 100 for her career.
