Jaguars host Ole Miss and LA Tech to close non-conference slate

MOBILE, Ala. – The Jaguars return to the Mitchell Center this week to close their non-conference slate, welcoming in the Ole Miss Rebels on Monday at 6 p.m. and LA Tech on Thursday at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
South (7-3) is coming off a 67-60 road win at Southeastern, where four Jags finished in double figures. Michiyah Simmons led the Jaguar attack with 16 points, the first time this season she led the squad in scoring.
 
Ole Miss is also 7-3 on the year and is coming off an 84-56 win over Mississippi Valley State. LA Tech has a matchup with California Baptist on Monday night before they make the trip to Mobile.
 
Monday's game will be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night and Thursday's game is the Christmas Game, and fans are encouraged to wear an ugly Christmas sweater.

South Alabama Notes
  • South is now 7-3 on the season and has already matched last season's win total. South is also 3-1 on the road, which is already two more road wins than last season.
  • South is 192 in the latest NET Rankings, the highest ranking for the program since the start of the rankings in the 2018-19 season.  
  • Junior guard Jordan Rosier is the only Jaguar to start all 10 games this season, playing an average of 27.6 minutes per game. That is tied with Kelsey Thompson for most minutes played on the team this season.
  • South Alabama has five Jags who are averaging 9+ points per game: Kelsey Thompson (12.4), Michiyah Simmons (10.3), Zena Elias (9.8), Jordan Rosier (9.8), Rachel Leggett (9.3).
  • South has had five finish in double figures twice this season, and finished with four in double figures four times this season.
  • Six different Jaguars have led the team in scoring through nine games, with Kelsey Thompson leading the team four times.
  • Two Jaguars posted their first career double-doubles in the win over New Orleans, with Kelsey Thompson finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Emani Burks finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Burks's 13 points and 10 rebounds are both new career highs, while Thompson's 13 rebounds are a career high as well.
  • South's trip to the Denver Classic saw two new career highs, with Rachel Leggett recording a career-high 8 rebounds vs Nevada and Jordan Rosier bringing down a career-high 5 rebounds vs Denver.
  • South returns 73.6% of its scoring from a year ago, including SBC Freshman of the Year Kelsey Thompson, who led the Jaguars with 10.7 points per game. South Alabama also returned its leading rebounder, Kiana Anderson, who averaged 5.8 rpg last season.
  • South returns 12 from last year's squad and added four newcomers. Tyrielle Williams and Janelle Jones return to the court after missing last season due to injury.
 
Ole Miss Notes
  • Ole Miss is 7-3 on the season and is coming off an NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance last season.
  • Four Rebels are averaging 9+ points a game, with Marquesha Davis and Snudda Collins leading the way with 11.9 ppg.
  • Senior forward Madison Scott was named to both the Cheryl Miller Award Preseason Watch List and the Naismith Award Preseason Watch List.
  • Scott also ranks 9th on the SEC active career points list with 1016 and 2nd on the SEC active rebounding list with 732.

  • South Alabama is 2-6 all-time against Ole Miss and is looking for its first win against the Rebels since 2010.

  • The Lady Techsters are 3-9 and will play California Baptist Monday before coming to Mobile on Thursday.
