MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama remains at home through the weekend, hosting the Central Michigan Chippewas on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
 
The contest is the first meeting between the Jaguars and the Chippewas and is part of the MAC-SBC Challenge, a scheduling alliance in the sports of men's and women's basketball between the Mid-American Conference and the Sun Belt Conference.
 
The Sun Belt women host the 12 MAC women's basketball teams in the first contest, while the MAC women will return the favor in the second contest, which will take place on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, with the matchups set based on real-time NET rankings and announced in January.
 
South Alabama is coming off a 74-61 win over Mobile, while Thursday's matchup will be Central Michigan's first of the season.

South Alabama Notes

• South is coming off a 74-61 win over Mobile, where the Jaguars had four players in double figures. Kelsey Thompson led the Jags with 19 points.
• South returns 73.6% of its scoring from a year ago, including SBC Freshman of the Year Kelsey Thompson, who led the Jaguars with 10.7 points per game.
• South Alabama is led by first-year head coach Yolisha Jackson, who returns to Mobile after three years at South Florida.
• South returns 12 from last year's squad and added four newcomers. Tyrielle Williams and Janelle Jones return to the court after missing last season due to injury.
• South Alabama also returned its leading rebounder, Kiana Anderson, who averaged 5.8 rpg last season.
• Central Michigan is South Alabama's first division I opponent this season.
• The Chippewas are one of three new opponents for South Alabama this season, all of which South will play within a span of 15 days.

• The Chippewas are led by first-year head coach Kristin Haynie.
• Central Michigan defeated Davenport 75-61 in their lone preseason exhibition.
• Freshman point guard Tamara Ortiz totaled a game-high 16 points in 22 minutes.
• Central Michigan added five newcomers – three true freshmen and two transfers.
