MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama officially begins the 2023-24 basketball season Monday, hosting cross-town opponent Mobile on Monday, Nov. 6 at the Mitchell Center at 5 p.m.
 
The game is part of a basketball doubleheader, with the Mobile and South Alabama men's teams facing each other at 7 p.m.
 
The game officially begins the Yolisha Jackson era at South Alabama, as she begins her first season as the Jaguars' head coach.

South Alabama Notes

• South is coming off a 70-30 exhibition win over West Alabama.
• South Alabama is led by first-year head coach Yolisha Jackson, who returns to Mobile after three years at South Florida.
• South returns 12 from last year's squad and added four newcomers.
• South Alabama is led by returner Kelsey Thompson, who was named the 2022-23 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and was named Preseason All-Sun Belt Third-team.
• Thompson led South Alabama with 10.7 points per game a year ago.
• South also returned its leading rebounder, Kiana Anderson, who averaged 5.8 rpg last season.
• South also welcomes back Tyrielle Williams and Janelle Jones, who both missed last season due to injuries.
• The Jags' largest margin of victory against Mobile was a 103-59 win over the Rams in 2019.

• The Rams are led by Sydney Westry, who is in her first season at Mobile.
• Mobile is 3-0 on the season and averaging 85.3 ppg and 50.7 rebounds per game
• The Rams are led by Erica Jones, who is averaging 24.7 points per game.
• Mobile went 2-0 at the SSAC vs. SUN Conference Challenge, beating Keiser University and Webber International University.

• South is 9-0 all-time vs Mobile, with the last meeting between the teams being a 63-59 win for South Alabama.
