Jaguars welcome New Orleans for Wednesday night tilt

MOBILE, Ala. – After two weeks on the road, the Jaguars return to the Mitchell Center Wednesday for a matchup with the New Orleans Privateers. First tip is set for 7 p.m.
 
South Alabama is coming off a 1-1 trip at the Denver Classic, falling to Nevada before beating the Denver Pios in the final game of the classic.
 
Junior guard Jordan Rosier was named to the Denver Classic All-Tournament team after a two double-figure game performance in the Denver Classic, posting 19 points in the game vs Nevada and 13 points vs the Pios.
 
New Orleans is 1-4 on the year and is coming off a 54-81 loss to Houston. The Privateers earned their lone win of the season against Alcorn State, beating the Braves 53-42.  
 
For Wednesday's contest, both The Jaguars and the Privateers are led by a new coach. Head Coach Yolisha Jackson is in her first year as a head coach overall, while Trelanne Powell of UNO is in her first at New Orleans and her sixth overall season

South Alabama Notes
  • South is coming off a 1-1 trip to the Denver Classic, falling to Nevada but beating Denver.
  • Jordan Rosier was named to the Denver Classic All-Tournament Team, following a 16 ppg performance through two games.
  • The trip saw a few new career highs, with Rachel Leggett recording a career-high 8 rebounds vs Nevada, Emani Burks finishing with a career-high 8 points and 8 rebounds vs Denver and Jordan Rosier bringing down a career-high 5 rebounds vs Denver.
  • South returns 73.6% of its scoring from a year ago, including SBC Freshman of the Year Kelsey Thompson, who led the Jaguars with 10.7 points per game.

  • DeArica Pryor leads the Privateers with 13.3 ppg.
  • New Orleans is averaging 52 pgg, while allowing 74 ppg.
  • The lone win this season for New Orleans is a 53-42 win over Alcorn State.
  • For the second consecutive season, the Privateers have returned four starters. DeArica Pryor, Nahja Scott, Zoe Cooper and Justice Ross all return this year. All four players started at least 24 of the team's 28 games during the 2022-23 season.
