Jags Shutout Marshall 28-0 to Clinch Bowl Eligibility

MOBILE, Ala. – For the first time in program history, South Alabama football will go to a bowl game in back-to-back seasons thanks to the Jaguars earning their first shutout over an FBS program in school history after a dominant, 28-0, victory over Marshall Saturday night at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

The victory pushed USA to 6-5 on the season with a 4-3 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. The sixth win on the year ensures the Jags will be playing in the postseason for the second-consecutive year.

"Proud of the fight of our football team," said head coach Kane Wommack. "We talk about adversity and working through adversity. Certainly, we've created adversity for ourselves this season and we've had to work through those things. I'm very proud of the last two weeks of our team doing hard things in hard times."

For the second-straight week, the defense set the tone early for the Jaguars as South came away with interceptions on consecutive drives to open the game. Jalen Jordan picked off Marshall's quarterback on the opening drive, and was followed by Jaden Voisin stepping in front of a pass on the next. Marquise Robinson then closed out a near-perfect half for the defense by completing the interception hat trick and picking off a pass on the last play of the second quarter.

Overall, South Alabama's defense held Marshall to just 201 total yards on the night, including a marginal 42 rushing yards. The defense swarmed to the ball all night with seven quarterback hurries, which held the Thundering Herd to a completion percentage of 61 with just 159 passing yards for the game.

Offensively, USA was balanced on the night with 197 yards rushing and 196 yards through the air for a total of 393 yards for the game. Quarterback Carter Bradley accounted for 176 of those passing yards, while senior Desmond Trotter threw for 20 yards in his last home game as a Jaguar. Two of Bradley's passes went for touchdowns to Jamaal Pritchett and La'Damian Webb. Caullin Lacy also hauled in nine catches for 126 yards.

Webb had another monster game with 117 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in addition to his touchdown reception. Braylon McReynolds also provided the team with a burst of energy in his second week back from injury with 53 yards on eight carries, including the longest running play of the night at 35 yards. Marco Lee Jr. chipped in an additional 30 yards in his final home game in a South Alabama uniform.
